Saab unveils Nimbrix low-cost counter-drone missile

Saab has unveiled Nimbrix, its first dedicated Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) missile, designed to address the rapidly growing threat of small drones on the battlefield. The 1 m-long, fire-and-forget missile weighs under 3 kg, has an effective range of 2–5 km, and employs an active seeker with a hard-kill airburst warhead capable of neutralising drone swarms. Saab emphasises its low-cost, high-efficiency design, making it suitable for mass deployment to ensure broad air defence coverage.

The system is highly flexible and modular, able to operate independently or as part of integrated air defence networks. Nimbrix can be deployed as a man-portable system, mounted on vehicles, unmanned ground platforms, or naval units, and can be integrated with command-and-control systems, radars, passive sensors, and Saab’s RBS 70 NG short-range missile. Launchers can carry 12–15 Nimbrix missiles, or mixed loads with other systems, providing a scalable “inner layer” of layered defence.

Saab aims to begin deliveries in 2026, with ongoing discussions with potential customers. The missile will be showcased at DSEI London 2025. By combining low cost, portability, and interoperability, Saab positions Nimbrix as a cost-effective, one-shot-one-kill solution to counter the proliferation of UAVs, while benefiting from Saab’s long-standing expertise in air defence.
